Comment moderation enabled

I got a sudden outbreak of blog spam today. Because of this, I have had to enable moderation for all anonymous comments. Deleting all 25 or so of them by hand through the Blogger interface just takes to long. Apologies to the well-behaved of you out there. Somebody pooped in the pool.

Am I the only one that feels that spam, particularly blog and wiki spam, is something akin to terrorism? I have this feeling like I'm being forced to relinquish some of my freedoms. Comment moderation feels like a metal detector in a museum.

Comments:

Spam is properly seen not as an annoyance or a minor issue but instead a low-grade denial of service attack. It is entirely reasonable to argue that it is kind of network attack. (Hopefully this passes your human spam filter ;)

Did you try the intermediate step of just adding CAPTCHA thingies to the postings?

Aaah, spam.

For email, at least we have spam assassin. The only problem with it is it doesn't actually go out and assassinate the %$#@ing spammers.

They are ruining the internet for the rest of us.
